  • Having been given a new heart (regeneration) through the eternal Word of God  enables us to love one another 



V22

  • Obeying the truth purifies your soul

    • Obedience to the truth=trusting Christ for salvation

    • purified: cleansed by Christ and devoted to Christ 


  • Brotherly love is one outcome of a pure soul

    • sincere: unfeigned, real 

    • love of the brethren: brotherly love (kindness)


  • So…love one another since you’ve been purified

  • Fervently: intensely, earnestly

  • From the heart


V23

  • Love one another because you have been born again

    • Born again = regeneration


  • You’ve been born again through the gospel Word of God

  • Imperishable: incorruptible (kjv) undecaying, will live forever

  • Living: Hebrews 4:12

  • Enduring: to survive, to dwell,  to remain permanently and unchanged


V24-25 (Quoted from Isaiah 40:6-8)

  • God’s Word is not human/natural (it is supernatural in origin) 

    • Flesh: 

      • The body of man and beast

      • used of natural or physical origin, generation or relationship


  • God’s Word is not mortal

    • Endures: Continue, dwell, endure,remain,stand, survive

    • Forever: Continual, Continually…lit., "unto (the) end,
